Type 2 Diabetes

As soon as our boy was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes (the autoimmune, insulin dependant one) we received A LOT of advice from well-meaning people on how to treat it, and we faced a lot of questions as it is not as prevalent as Type 2 diabetes. Questions that I, at first did not have answers to.

So, all through nutrition school I did all of my research and assignments, where applicable, on both Type 1 AND Type 2 diabetes so I could also help those who have Type 2 diabetes. The future health scares are the same. The diagnosis and treatment is different of course as Type 2 diabetics if treated early enough can fully reverse it with a specialty diet and increased movement.

I read some really interesting research in school by Dr Kraft and it is unfortunate that there are pretty awful and flat out wrong stigma’s associated with Type 2 diabetes. Insulin resistance and Pre-diabetes often happens many many years before the actual diagnosis so be kind to yourself. None of this is easy!
